Can you use some old photo for applying for a passport?

Normally, you shouldn't use any old photo with passport application. Most countries require you to submit a recent photo. Here is what leading countries mention in their instructions.
United States requires passport photo must be taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance.
Canada mentions that the photo must reflect your current appearance (taken within the last 12 months).
United Kingdom "Your photos must be taken within the last month".
Australia Photographs must be no more than six months old.
New Zealand Your photos must not be more than 6 months old.
India Minor applicants below the age of 4 years need to carry a passport size photograph for the processing of application at the PSK/PO. For applicants above the age of 4 years, photographs will be captured at the PSK/PO itself.
